The Dershowitz Protocol
written by Robert Fothergill
directed by Anthony Frisina
"If the judicially sanctioned torture of suspected terrorists might actually forestall a repeat of the 9/11 bombings, why not use it?" (Alan Dershowitz, Why Terrorism Works). A hypothetical exposition based on the beliefs of America's leading civil rights activist, Alan Dershowitz, The Dershowitz Protocol debates the suspension of due process under ticking bomb circumstances and the enactment of a protocol legalizing "humane torture" in hopes of regaining the United State's global dignity through our fight against terrorism.

written by Jay Boyer
directed by Diana Basmajian
dramaturgy by Kenny Kosek and Anthony Frisina
"I'd say the most imminent threat to the American way of life at the moment is from within, sir... I just think there's a paradox in forfeiting an American way of life in order to preserve it from forces beyond our own borders." (Harry Wald, A Case is Never Closed, written by Jay Boyer) The Constitution of the United States of America twice mentions that "no person shall be...deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law..." In the early 1950's, as is the case today, for "the greater good of Americans and America", accusation, speculation and even a mere mention of an un-American activity, whether truthful or not, often led to a public indictment and conviction of their suspicion. The era of McCarthyism brought about the downfall of many great men in the arenas of motion pictures, literature, the stage and the higher arts. Women were rarely under attack and no woman with as high a stature as Lucille Ball had ever been targeted by the House Un-American Activities Committee. In 1953, because of a simple gesture towards her grandfather 20 years prior, all that changed. A Case Is Never Closed is an historic look into the life of Lucille Ball and the events leading up to and including her appearance before the committee. She was a household name and through the medium of television, millions of people even considered her part of their family. It is through the support of these Americans that she gained the hope to survive it. |
