Writing Residency
Discipline Description: Please use the following more as a guideline of the residency offered rather than a solidified version of it. No two institutions are the same, so using this format, we will work with your school to create the most optimal residency for your students.

This program is fantastic in allowing the students the freedom to let their minds explore the most outrageous depths of their imagination without the pressure of performance. The children will get the opportunity to create their own stories and characters and learn how to organize their imagination into a performable script.

  1. Free Writing
    • Every class in every Writing Residency begins with 10 minutes of free writing. This allows the students an amazing opportunity to clear their minds of any negativity and, thus, enabling them to open their minds to the furthest of their imaginations.

  2. Character Development
    • With their imaginations reeling, the students will now confer with each other to create a basic verbal sketch of a character. They all will then group off to combine ideas to create lively, animated characters which they will use in their stories. This will take us half way through the residency.

  3. Storytelling
    • The second half of the residency will set these characters free. With a combination of individual and group work, the students will learn story structure and apply it to giving their characters life and an adventure.

  4. Improvisation Games
    • As in the Acting Residency, all classes will conclude with the students playing various improvisation games which are not only tremendously fun, but are also physically engaging, giving the students a great cardio workout.
